Come out of your den Sales lion - Is Content Curation Worth it?

“Why Curated Content on Your Website is an Ineffective Waste of Time” was published last week by Marcus Sheridan, the self-acclaimed “The Sales Lion." He has some strong views on how curation doesn't work, doesn't attract leads and doesn't help to create conversations. As I'm currently curating, and engaging you - I believe that comment is a little off the mark.

Sheridan demonstrates a lack of understanding of what curation really is, and furthermore, he is confused by how it benefits marketers.  Instead, he advocates for solely creating content, and not curating other people’s content.

But we do want to hear from you - what do you think? Do you agree? Do you disagree? Would love to hear your thoughts.

    8. Lessons Learned on Content Marketing from Gartner

Lessons Learned on Content Marketing from Gartner

Curata CMO, Michael Gerard, has compiled a list of learning that he took away from Gartner's recent roadshow tour stop in Boston where a panel discussion led by Jake Sorofman covered the "Three C's of Content Marketing: Creation, Curation and Cultivation".

As expected, a large part of the discussion focussed on curation with takeaways such as:

"As you execute your content marketing strategy to deliver content to your audience, don’t just think like a publisher; think like a journalist and artist to rise above the noise.” [Sorofman]

Basically Sorofman is saying that simply creating and publishing content is not sufficient, you also need to rise above the noise perhaps by even helping reduce it using curation as a means to distill down only the best content.

Mike Volpe, HubSpot’s CMO, kicked things off this morning at their Inbound 2013 event in Boston, drawing a direct analogy to the size of Inbound13 with Salesforce.com’s annual DreamForce vent. After only 3 years, HubSpot’s Inbound 2013 event has 5,300 people from 35 countries, while the Dreamforce event had only 3,400 people in its third year. Having been to many marketing events, I’m not sure that I’ve ever seen so many marketers in one place.
